Differences Between The Adjustable Memory Foam Bed And The Adjustable Air Beds
This article looks at the differences between the adjustable memory foam bed and the adjustable air beds. These two types of beds are totally different with regards to body support. First of all, memory foam is a kind of polyurethane foam with certain chemicals added to enhance its density and viscosity. Basically, this material is firmer when it is cooler and softer when it is warmer. Thus, it reacts to the presence of a body lying on it by becoming warmer and softer in those areas where the warmth of the body is being transferred to the foam. When compared to other kinds of foam mattresses, it appears to be thicker and more supportive. However, it is also heavier. The primary advantage of the adjustable memory foam bed is the capability to mold itself to the body of a person so that there is much less pressure points and thus there is less possibility for pressure sores, especially for patients who stay in bed for long periods of time.
On the other hand, the major advantage of an adjustable air bed mattress is that the buyer can select the style of firmness. These mattresses are divided in the middle and are provided with two air bags for each half. This pair of air bags permits the user to make adjustments to the firmness of each half of the mattress. An important benefit of sleeping on this type of air mattress is that there is a feeling of zero gravity where you are weightless and suspended on air.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that both types of mattresses have negative features. For one, the adjustable memory foam bed is somewhat warmer compared to the common mattress the foam has absorb the person’s body heat. On the other hand, the air bed does not provide sufficient body support. Thus, people may feel stiff when they wake up in the morning. In addition, the air pockets in the mattress are likely to deflate gradually during the night and there is a need to refill them with air to regain the preferred firmness.
With regards to price, the smaller sized adjustable memory foam beds are less costly than the corresponding air beds. However, as they gain in size, the foam beds gradually overtake the air beds with regards to price. The reason for this is the quantity of foam that must placed inside the mattress.
Let us now look at high quality examples of the adjustable memory foam bed. These include the foam beds of Spa Sensations, Night Therapy, Novaform, Bragada, Tempur-Pedic, and Bergad/Isoform. A survey found that Night Therapy, Bragada and Spa Sensations had the highest rating when it came to comfort. The Bergad/Isoform had a somewhat lower rating than the previous three and it was only rated as medium when it comes to firmness and fair with regards to durability. Tempur Pedic has the same rating as Bergad/Isoform with regards to comfort. However, it worked well with regards to pain relief and durability compared to other brands that are less costly.
